NATE Certification Means You’re In Great Hands
You should take the installation, maintenance and repair of your home HVAC systems very seriously. Heating and cooling equipment must be installed properly to work efficiently and safely, preventing hazards such as exposure to carbon monoxide. Your technician should be knowledgeable, experienced and careful, with both the desire and the ability to do the job right. NATE certification is a reliable indicator that the contractor is a professional dedicated to high standards and excellent service.
NATE, which stands for North American Technician Excellence, is an industry-recognized testing and certification organization for technicians in the HVAC field. Since it was founded in 1997, NATE has certified thousands of professional technicians in diverse HVAC specialties. NATE certification is recognized by business groups, associations and unions within the HVAC industry and is a leading indicator of technician proficiency and knowledge. NATE partners include professional organizations such as the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
NATE certification is granted after HVAC technicians prove they possess in-depth subject knowledge, technical expertise and practical skills. Technicians must pass a general HVAC knowledge test and at least one subject-specific exam in installation or service. NATE-certified technicians usually specialize in areas such as:
- Air conditioning
- Gas heating
- Oil heating
- Air distribution
- Air-to-air heat pumps
- Ground-source heat pumps
- Commercial refrigeration
- HVAC efficiency
Surveys indicate that NATE-certified technicians are called back to revise projects at a rate almost 13 percent lower than non-NATE techs. Almost three-quarters of surveyed customers stated they were extremely satisfied with the performance of their NATE-certified technician. More than two-thirds of survey respondents indicate high levels of satisfaction with systems installed by NATE-certified professionals.
